Waste containers
What is it?
Green and gray container
Every household (low-rise) has a green container of 140 or 240 liters for vegetable, fruit and garden waste and a gray container of 140 or 240 liters for residual waste. This waste separation chart tells you which waste belongs in which container. The containers belong to the home. The waste containers are equipped with a chip, in which the address details and the type of container are registered. The collection truck has a computer that can read the chip and register empties.
Underground Waste container
At high-rise buildings there are underground waste containers with two openings: for normal garbage bags (40 liters) and for pedal bin liners (maximum 25 liters). With the municipal pass you can open the underground container. On the website of Cure Afvalbeheer you will find a manual on how to use the underground Waste container.
What to do.
Waste container broken or lost
Report a broken or missing Waste container to Cure Waste Management. Is the underground Waste container full or broken? Also report this to Cure.
Waste container exchange
It is possible to exchange containers for a 240-liter container if it turns out that a 140-liter container is not enough. Exchanging a large container for a smaller one is also possible. There are costs associated with exchanging containers (€20) per container. You will receive an invoice for this from the municipality. When you move house, the exchange of container(s) is free if you make the request within six weeks. To exchange your container, contact Cure Afvalbeheer.
Extra container of GFT waste
It is only possible to request an additional container for VGF waste. If it turns out that a 240 liter container (standard at your home is a 140 liter) is not big enough for your waste, you can request an extra container for VGF waste. You must have presented your container more than 20 times a year in the previous period. The extra container for VGF waste is provided free of charge.
Container Lock
If you need to store the container at the front of your home and want to prevent others from putting trash in your container, you can purchase a container lock. The cost is €27.50 per lock. The lock automatically pops open when the container is emptied by the garbage truck. Here it is important that you do not overfill the container. This is the case when you have to press the lock to close it. Then the lock can no longer open automatically and the container cannot be emptied.
The lock belongs to the container, when exchanging the container for another, it cannot be transferred. When moving, the container must remain with the lock, the cost of the lock will not be refunded. You can order a container lock from Cure by calling (040) 2500 130. After payment, the lock will be installed in your container. Please allow six weeks after the money is received.
Malfunctions/complaints underground containers
Most failures are caused by residents putting too full garbage bags into the underground container that don't fit, causing the bag to get stuck in the drum. Very annoying for the person who comes next! So Health make sure the bag is not too full. If breakdowns occur, we ask that you report them as soon as possible via (040) 2500 130. Most breakdowns can then be fixed the same day.
Are you moving?
You can report your move to the municipality's Public Affairs Department. You will then receive an interim final bill for waste collection and sewerage fees, among other things. Leave the containers and the KCA-boxHousehold Hazardous Waste Waste) empty, clean and, if possible, in a locked space, as these belong to the property. Also leave the municipal pass in the building for the new residents.
How does it work?
The Cure website tells you when trash will be collected on your street.
Offering container
Please put the containers on the street before 7:30 a.m. This is because household waste collection routes may change. As a result, the collection vehicle may arrive earlier than you are used to. So always put your containers on the street on time. Collection takes place between 07.30 - 17.30.
Health that the lid of the container is closed and that the container weighs no more than 70 pounds. Please with the lid opening to the street, no more than 50 cm from the curb and at least 30 cm of space around it. You may not place waste on or next to the container. If Cure cannot empty the container because the contents are too solid (e.g. due to frost), the emptying will still be charged. Health therefore, that the container is in a sheltered place at night in case of frost. If the contents have frozen anyway, try to carefully poke the sides a little loose so that the container can still be emptied. If you have complaints about the way your containers have been emptied, please contact Cure, at (040) 2500 130. Please do so within two business days so that your problem can be resolved as soon as possible.
Underground containers
For each household that uses an underground Waste container, the municipal pass is made eligible for access. This pass belongs to the home. With the pass, any underground container can be used. The pass has a chip, on which address information is registered. The control panel of the container reads the chip and registers the empties. In order not to damage the chip, it is forbidden to make holes or other changes on the pass. If you lose the pass, you can request a new pass through Cure. Your old pass will be blocked immediately so that others cannot misuse it. A new pass costs €15. You will receive a bill for this from the municipality. If you are a new resident and you do not find a municipal pass in the house (or did not receive one from the previous resident) you can request a new pass. If you do this within 6 weeks of registering at the new address, the pass will be issued free of charge.
What does it cost?
To have your Waste container emptied or to dispose of waste in the underground Waste container , you pay waste collection fees. You can read exactly what you have to pay on the waste levy page.
