Waste water discharge

What is it?

Sewage companies discharge

If you want your business to discharge wastewater to the municipal sewer system, the municipality wants to know from you. You only have to report certain discharges. For other discharges, you need to apply for a permit from the municipality.

Domestic wastewater discharge

It is illegal to discharge (drain) domestic wastewater outside the sewer system, such as into a stream, river, lake or into the ground. If your home or other building is not (yet) connected to the sewer, you can apply for an exemption to the discharge prohibition. You do this with the water board or high water board in your area.

If you have a water permit to discharge, you do not need to apply for an exemption.

Through the Activities Decree Internet Module (AIM), you can see if you need to apply for a permit or make a notification.

What to do.

Permit discharge wastewater companies

Make the notification or request the permit through Activity Order Internet Module (AIM). When doing so, provide the following information:

  • Whether you have previously obtained permits to discharge wastewater (for example, an environmental permit or water permit)
  • Whether you have previously filed a report for wastewater discharge (only if you also have confirmation of the report)

Domestic wastewater discharge exemption

  • You ask the Water Board/High Water Board if you need an exemption.
  • Then, if necessary, apply for the exemption. When doing so, specify how you want to discharge your domestic wastewater.
