Monuments
Monuments are buildings and sites of general interest because of their beauty, their significance to science or their cultural-historical value. Municipal policy is contained in the Heritage Ordinance.
Heritage Map
The municipal Heritage Map provides detailed information about archaeology and cultural history in the municipality of Geldrop-Mierlo.
National Monuments
Within the municipality of Geldrop-Mierlo, the state has designated 41 national monuments. The Heritage Inspectorate supervises the Health for national monuments and protected city and village views. Changes to a monument may only be made with a permit based on the Monument Act. You can read how this works under Monument renovation or demolition.
Municipal monuments
The municipal council can place buildings on a municipal monument list if they are not designated as national monuments. These are, for example, buildings that are important in the history of a village. In Geldrop-Mierlo there are about 66 of them. These may not just be demolished or changed. Read more atMonuments.
Cultural history
The cultural-historical heritage in Geldrop-Mierlo has been brought together by the province in the Cultural-historical values map. The Map is a tool for preserving cultural-historical heritage.
Archaeology
Geldrop and Mierlo have an archaeologically rich past. In addition to many observations and small excavations by the local history circles, among others, the University of Amsterdam has conducted a lot of large-scale research within the municipality since the 1990s. This has contributed greatly to the knowledge of the region's past.
With the policy plan Archeologische beleidsplan Geldrop-Mierlo (pdf, 6063 KB) the municipality complies with the Wet op de archeologische monumentenzorg and has laid down how the municipality deals with archaeological heritage. The archaeological policy map (pdf, 2639 KB) shows all known archaeological values within the territory of Geldrop-Mierlo.
