Parking solution redevelopment of De Meent parking lot

Plans for the redevelopment of De Meent parking lot are taking shape. After a series of participatory meetings with local residents and stakeholders, the municipal executive expressed a preference for Variant 5: ground-level parking at De Meent and Hofdael.

On March 31, 2025, the City Council established the frameworks for redesigning the site. The redevelopment is necessary to meet future parking demand, especially due to planned housing development in the downtown area.

Participation meetings

During the participation meetings in May and July, residents were able to contribute ideas about various solutions. In addition to three proposals from the municipality itself, two alternative plans were put forward by participants. These alternatives turned out to be most to the liking of those present. After an assessment of all the variants, partly based on the previously established frameworks, the council finally chose variant 5. This solution combines ground-level parking at De Meent and additional parking spaces at Hofdael. In total, the plan provides space for about 150 parking spaces, with a green and attractive appearance.

Decision-making in December

The City Council will discuss the council proposal recommending Variance 5 at the committee meeting on Nov. 17. Final decisions will be made at the council meeting on Dec. 8. Residents can attend both meetings or follow them online at www.geldropmierlo.nl/gemeenteraad. This website also provides information on how residents can exercise their right to speak during the committee meeting.

Elaborating further together

If the City Council approves Variant 5, the municipality plans to develop the plans further in cooperation with residents and stakeholders. At a later date, residents will be informed about how and when this next step will be taken up.
