Voters with disabilities: what is provided for you at the polling place?
Voting independently is not obvious to everyone. For example, because you are in a wheelchair or cannot see well. To ensure that you can still vote as independently as possible, a number of things are arranged in the polling station. There are also aids available.
Beforehand: prepared voting
- Before you vote, you can prepare.
- You can read information about the election and what you need to vote at www.elkestemtelt.nl and at www.geldrop-mierlo.nl/verkiezingen.
- Spoken candidate lists will be on our website by October 29, 2025.
- A candidate list in Braille is available at each polling station.
- Would you like an explanation of the House of Representatives in understandable language? Or about how voting works? Then visit www.stemjijook.nl. A beautiful website that explains not only with text but also with understandable videos. Also at www.Steffie.nl you will find a lot of information in understandable language about the elections and how voting works.
An accessible polling place
We ensure that the polling place is as accessible as possible. Also for voters with physical disabilities.
- You can find polling places near you in the table or at www.waarismijnstemlokaal.nl. The website also tells you how accessible that polling place is.
- Each polling place has a handicapped parking space close to the entrance.
- There are signs that say "polling place" or "polling station" to direct you to the entrance.
- The polling place is accessible to people in wheelchairs, mobility scooters and people with walkers.
- We make sure there are no obstacles in the way at the polling place.
Help at the polling place
At the polling place, there are tools to help you vote.
- There is a list of candidates hanging in every polling place in large letters.
- There is at least one voting booth with a low writing surface, for voters in wheelchairs.
- There is a magnifying glass with lighting. You can also use your own phone with magnification or another electronic magnifier or camera.
- There is a list of candidates in Braille at each polling place.
- At the polling place, a polling station member may explain to you how to use the ballot paper. The polling place member will help you outside the voting booth.
- Are you unable to vote yourself due to your physical condition? Then someone may help you in the voting booth. You may bring someone with you or ask a poll worker for help.
Do you need extra help to cast your votes independently? If so, please contact the Elections team. You can email verkiezingen@geldrop-mierlo.nl or call (040) 289 38 93.
