Are you going on vacation to the United Kingdom this year? Apply for an ETA

Are you staying in the United Kingdom (England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland) for less than 6 months? And are you traveling with a Dutch passport? Then you will need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) as of April 2, 2025. The ETA must be applied for at least 3 days before arrival in the United Kingdom.

What is it?

The ETA is an electronic travel authorization system that travelers from visa-free countries, including the Netherlands, are required to apply for before traveling to the United Kingdom. The system was introduced in June 2023 as part of the United Kingdom's efforts to improve border security and make the immigration process more efficient. It should shorten queues at border controls, speeding passage. From April 2, 2025, it will be mandatory to apply for ETA.

How does it work?

Applying for the ETA can be done in 2 ways:

Children must also apply for an ETA.

The ETA is valid for 2 years, or until the passport expires (within those 2 years). It can be traveled to England as often as needed. However, you must register your visit via the UK ETA app.
