Think ahead: together we keep the power grid reliable

We are all using and generating more and more electricity. This is good news, because it shows how quickly we are switching to renewable energy. At the same time, it demands more from the power grid. By working together smartly and distributing our consumption well, we ensure that everyone continues to have access to reliable power - now and in the future.

What's going on?

At some times the pressure on the power grid is high. This happens, for example, on cold autumn and winter days, when many people heat and cook at the same time, or on sunny days, when many solar panels feed power back. This can temporarily put a heavy load on the grid.

Enexis takes various measures to keep the grid stable. Sometimes this is technically challenging, but by making smart choices together, we can largely prevent overloading. In this way, we ensure that the grid remains reliable for everyone.

What can you do?

Use power at quiet times of the day. That helps the grid and often your energy bill.

Avoid peak times:

In winter, on cold weekdays, between 7:00-10:00 a.m. and 4:00-21:00 p.m. For example, schedule charging your electric car or running the washing machine outside of these times.

Tips from Enexis:

Some devices are needed at fixed times. Other devices can often be used at other times. With small adjustments, you can help relieve the load on the power grid. And sometimes you also save energy. That's good for your wallet. These devices have the greatest impact:

  • Heating: heat only the room you are in and keep doors of unused rooms closed.
  • Washer and dryer: use a timer and run laundry off-peak.
  • Dishwasher: run the dishwasher at a later time, such as at night.
  • Electric car: charge off-peak, such as at night.
  • (Hybrid) heat pump: keep the temperature stable; heating a cold house costs extra electricity.
