Help in and around the house

Sometimes housework or cooking becomes (temporarily) more difficult, or there are chores you can no longer do yourself. If you would like to continue living on your own, much can be done with the help of family, friends, acquaintances or neighbors. Maybe you just need some minor adjustments or aids. Or family members or friends may be willing to take over some of your chores.

Do you need permanent domestic help due to a disability? Then you can apply to the municipality for a WMO facility for this.

What do you want to know about?

Wmo facilities

Wmo stands for Social Support Act. This law ensures that you can continue to live independently for as long as possible, perhaps with Health and support you need. Before you can get help, the municipality first looks at what you can still do yourself, with the help of family, friends and neighbors. If this turns out not to be possible, we look at whether general facilities are the solution. Only then will we look at a customized facility specifically for your situation.

General facilities

General facilities are facilities that anyone, without indication, can use. For example, a cleaning service, a laundry/dry cleaning service, the grocery delivery service of a supermarket, the restaurant of a nursing home where local residents can eat for a small fee.

If that fails, you can use support from the Wmo. These are customized facilities.

Customized services

Customized services are services that are tailored entirely to the client. In other words, for you. For example, day care, household support and transport facilities.

Own contribution

The municipality charges a co-payment for customized services. You must then pay part of the costs yourself. There is a maximum amount of € 20.60 per month. You will automatically receive a message from CAK (Central Administrative Office), which calculates the personal contribution. You can calculate the contribution yourself on the CAK website.

Chores(service)

Do you have small chores you can no longer do yourself? Ask if a friend or family member would like to help you. If that doesn't work out, See if you can get help from a volunteer. On the website VoorelkaarinGeldrop-Mierlo you can post your request for help. People who want to give help can offer themselves here.

Cooking

Do you want to keep cooking for yourself? There are many kitchen aids that can make cooking easier. Check out Vilans' Resource Guide. On days when you can't cook, ask someone close to you to cook for you or with you. Often friends, relatives, neighbors or acquaintances are willing to help you. You can also buy healthy ready-to-eat meals at the supermarket.

Is there no one who can cook for you?

You can use a meal service. Or check out the website Thuisgekookt.nl. On this website, people offer meals that you can pick up. Sometimes you pay a small fee and sometimes it is free.

Personal budget (PGB).

With a personal budget (PGB) you can arrange Health yourself for psychological or physical complaints, for example. Think of an allowance for household help. You may choose who you hire for this. This can be a professional, but also a neighbor or a family member. This is different from Health in Natura. You receive Health, guidance, help or facilities through an institution or supplier that has a contract with your municipality. With a PGB you can, for example, buy a stair elevator or mobility scooter yourself. Usually you have to pay a personal contribution. This means that you pay part of the costs yourself.

You do not receive the reimbursement in your bank account. So you do not pay the care providers yourself. You instruct the Social Insurance Bank (SVB) to pay your care providers. The SVB receives an invoice (bill) or timesheet from the caregiver, or pays monthly. More information about the PGB can be found on the websites of the Rijksoverheid and Zorgwijzer.

Submitting data to SVB

You can submit your details to the SVB via My PGB on the Internet. This is faster than sending them by post or e-mail. You can use your DigiD to log in to My PGB via the SVB website. On this site, you will also find more information about the change when it comes to the PGB. You cannot pay your caregiver by direct debit or authorization.

Assistance from the municipality

Home care

Not all help and Health is covered by the municipality. For personal care (such as help with washing and dressing) and nursing care, you must go to Home Care. This help falls under the Health Insurance Act. You can contact your health insurer for this. Check Zorgkaart Nederland for all home care organizations in your area.
