College submits response: concerns for cores and natural areas in our community
In response to comments from concerned residents about the possible routes for high-voltage power lines through our municipality, the City Council passed a motion on June 24. This motion asks the college to respond to the draft routes now before it.
In that response, the college expresses its concerns, together with residents, about the well-being of residents in the nuclei of Geldrop-Mierlo. At the same time, the college is concerned about the pressure this development may put on the natural areas in our municipality.
A walk-in evening was held on June 5, organized by TenneT and the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth. During this evening, information was shared about the research into possible routes for a new high-voltage line between Maasbracht and Eindhoven. Representatives of the municipality were also present.
During this evening it became clear that the proposed routes (tracés) will certainly affect our municipality, either in Mierlo or in Geldrop. To arrive at these possible routes, TenneT and the Ministry first made an extensive analysis of the area. Information was then gathered from the municipalities about buildings, nature and special points of interest. Subsequently, information was collected from municipalities about built-up areas, nature values and specific points of interest. This input led to the draft routes that are now on the table. In the next step, TenneT and the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth will further investigate the possible routes.
What is certain is that the new connection will affect our municipality no matter what, given the geographical location between the connection points. That is precisely why it is important that the final choice of route causes as little damage as possible to nature, living environment, cultural history and spatial development opportunities.
The response, sent from the municipality, explicitly addresses the concerns and unrest of residents in Geldrop-Mierlo. This letter can be read below.
