What does the Omgevingswet mean for you?

The law offers room for initiatives, but with an emphasis on the quality of the living environment. From now on, you can do a permit check, apply for a permit, file a notification and view all applicable rules in one place. Namely at the environment counter. A permit procedure normally takes eight weeks and is extended to 26 weeks in special cases. We will work with a preliminary consultation. If the preliminary consultation is successfully completed, the chances of a successful and fast procedure are greater. Participation becomes even more important than it is now. It is about 'coordination with the neighborhood' and 'thinking up your own plans and making them possible together'. A first step in this is a conversation between the initiator and the neighborhood.

When will you be affected by the Omgevingswet?

  • You will soon want to install a dormer or build a shed, perhaps expand your business or set up a
establish a community vegetable garden? If so, you are an initiator and must find out whether you need a
permit. If so, you can apply for the permit at one desk, the so-called Environment Desk. Through the Environment Counter you can immediately see what rules apply to the place where you want to change something. This is all done digitally.
  • If something is going to change in your area, because someone else wants to build or remodel something, you can be a stakeholder. The Omgevingswet describes the possibilities for you to give your opinion about those plans (participation).

If you already have permission (a permit) to do something, you will not lose it with the introduction of the Omgevingswet.
