Voting and temporarily abroad
Do you want to vote, but will you be temporarily abroad on October 29, 2025? For example, for work or study? And you are still registered in a Dutch municipality? Then you can vote in the following ways:
Postal voting (from abroad)
Do you temporarily have a foreign mailing address? Then you can also vote by letter. You can request a postal voting certificate for this from the municipality of The Hague via its website .
Complete your application by Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025 and include a copy of your identification. The City of The Hague will review your application and send you a letter ballot at your temporary foreign mailing address.
Having someone else vote for you (written proxy)
When voting by proxy, you allow someone else to vote for you. This is called authorizing. This person in the Netherlands must also vote himself or herself. You can request a written proxy from the municipality. You can find more information on the page Proxy.
Notice:
- The papers you need to vote by mail will always be sent to your foreign address.
- Keep in mind that it takes time to send something by mail. Are you in a country where mail delivery is slow or less reliable? Then it is better to have someone vote for you with a written proxy.
- With a copy of your Dutch driving license you may apply to vote by letter from abroad. A Dutch driving license is not a valid identity document for voting by letter from abroad. For this you need (a copy of) a valid travel document.
