Sports Policy
Sport and exercise are important. Not only for you but also for the municipality. They are spearheads of the strategic vision of the municipality of Geldrop-Mierlo. Sports and culture offer residents a place to be active together on a regular basis and promote social cohesion. The municipality has drawn up a sports and exercise policy document to draw extra attention to sports and exercise so that inhabitants of Geldrop-Mierlo can develop in a healthy way in a pleasant and healthy living environment. The objective of the sports and exercise policy can be formulated as follows: "Geldrop-Mierlo wants to be a vital municipality, which strives to maintain and strengthen the sports and exercise infrastructure for all its inhabitants, each from their own interest and circumstances".
How does the municipality implement sports policy?
This sports vision is used to develop new initiatives and use subsidies as effectively as possible. Among other things, the sports and exercise memorandum pays attention to the quality and occupancy of accommodations, maintaining and increasing the number of volunteers, and the target group of youth and people with functional limitations is given extra attention. Links between education and sports are also promoted, for example through cooperation between after-school care and sports clubs.
The national program "Sport and exercise in the neighborhood" has led to the appointment of community sports coaches. The community sports coaches work together with area directors of the municipality, sports associations, social organizations, residents, schools, the municipality and housing associations.
