Toddler and health
The baby phase is over, your child has grown hard. Now the toddler phase begins, which are children from 1 to 3 years old. Children aged 1 and 2 are also called "toddlers. Your toddler is taking their first steps, learning to talk and exploring more and more. Your child gets a will of its own. It wants to do everything itself and can get very angry if something doesn't work or is not allowed. This can sometimes be difficult for parents.

Growth
A toddler grows quickly. Therefore, react immediately if you feel that something is not right. Seek advice from the child health clinic or the family doctor. The doctor and the youth nurse will see how your child is doing and whether he or she is growing well.

Helping to develop
Borrow fun and educational toys from the toy library. Addresses can be found in the digital municipal guide. Also visit the library with your child. There are regular reading afternoons and workshops. You can also read to your child yourself. Check out BoekStart for more information. It is also fun to exercise together, for example swimming or dancing. In the municipal guide you will find addresses of the library, swimming pools and (sports) clubs.
Nutrition
You can find information about healthy eating on the Nutrition Center's website. Some toddlers eat poorly. That can be a problem. Children need many good nutrients, vitamins and minerals to stay fit and grow. Therefore, it is at least wise to feed your child healthy food. Tips for eating problems can be found on the website of Opvoeden. Of course, you can also ask the child healthcare center for advice.

Overweight
Children are increasingly overweight. This is unfortunate, because if you are overweight at a young age, it is often difficult to get rid of it later. It is good to teach your child to eat healthy at an early age. Exercise is also important. On the website of the Nutrition Center you can read how to prevent obesity in your child.
Safety
Make your home and yard safe for your child. Health make sure your child is safe outside, too. Consider, for example, an approved child seat in the car or on the bike. Raising
Toddlers can enter toddler puberty. They test your limits, want to do a lot themselves (even when you don't want them to) and are sometimes difficult. A sick toddler
Is your toddler sick? Check the website Dokterdokter for which complaints to call the family doctor. Information and advice on (childhood) illnesses can also be found on Thuisarts and the GGD website .
Does your child remain ill? Are you in doubt? Then see your family doctor. Do you have general questions about diseases and ailments, or does your child often suffer from something? Discuss this with the consultation office.
Learning a second language
Is Dutch not your native language? A young child learns an additional language very easily. Check out Opvoeden for information on learning a second language.
Sobriety
Most children become potty-trained when they are 2 or 3 years old. They then indicate on their own that they need to go on the potty or toilet.
