What would you like to know more about?
Special assistance
Do you have a low income and unexpected, high expenses? Then you can apply to the municipality for special assistance. Special assistance is meant for costs that are necessary but that you cannot pay yourself. For example, costs for legal assistance or guardianship (this is for people who cannot manage their financial affairs themselves. The administrator manages someone else's money and property). You have expenses due to a personal special situation for which you have not been able to save. Therefore, you cannot apply for special assistance for expenses that everyone has, such as groceries, clothing and rent. Whether you receive assistance depends on your income and assets such as your house, car and savings.
Apply online for Special Assistance by logging in with your DigiD credentials.

You can also request the application form by phone from the CMD.
Medical expenses
The municipality provides special assistance for:
- The compulsory (legal) personal contribution you have to pay for a reimbursement from the basic insurance of your health insurance. Examples of costs that require a co-payment within the basic insurance are: some medicines, hearing aids, complete dentures and orthopedic shoes. This is therefore not the compulsory deductible that everyone has to pay.
- The costs of orthodontics (the treatment of, for example, crooked teeth, molars and jaws) in children under 18 years of age up to a maximum of € 2,500 per child. This includes the reimbursement from the health insurance company. This amount applies to the entire treatment period.
- The cost of medications required for children under 18 years of age.
- The cost of glasses for children under the age of 18 will be reimbursed for the cheapest possible suitable solution. The reimbursement for a frame is a maximum of €50.
- The cost of podiatric therapy for children under the age of 18 is reimbursed up to €180 per year (this includes any reimbursement from the health insurance company).
To repay or not to repay?
You do not have to repay special assistance. Nevertheless, the municipality may decide to give the assistance to you in the form of a loan. That is, for example, if you need Special Assistance to furnish your house.
- Your fees are needed.
- Your expenses arose because of personal special circumstances. So you cannot apply for special assistance for normal expenses, such as daily groceries and rent.
