Questions and answers: intensifying risk communication and denkvooruit.nl
Why is risk communication being intensified, doesn't that create unnecessary fear?
Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the corona crisis, there has been much attention in the Netherlands to the events there and also to the possible consequences for people in the Netherlands. Since February, research has been conducted on the perception of risk among people in the Netherlands. In it we see that people consider it likely that the consequences of the war in Ukraine will (will) be felt in the Netherlands. Such as the increase in prices for food, gas, energy, fuel, but also a possible cyber attack. The probability of failure of vital processes and a nuclear attack also scores high.
The survey shows that people like to be better informed about the risks and what they themselves can do to prepare for them.
The website denkvooruit.nl bundles all information about risks in the Netherlands, describes what the government is doing and gives tips on how people can make themselves more resilient. The emergency kit is also given extra attention.
The information is non-binding, why not more compelling advice?
People can decide for themselves whether they want to increase their resilience. We offer proven ways to prepare wisely for various risks. As risks increase, advice can be tightened and intensified.
Aren't we being too open about the threat and our preparation?
It is important to be open and provide actionable information that we use to work on our resilience. Of course, only public information will be shared.
Who is the information on thinkforward.com intended for?
The advice and action perspectives on think-forward.com are intended for those curious about how to increase their personal resilience.
How are people informed who don't have the Internet?
The website denkvooruit.nl is a first step, is intended for people looking for information. In the coming period (also together with safety regions and municipalities) we will look at how people can be informed even more.
Will there be a campaign now?
We are now focusing on people looking for information. Therefore, investments are now being made, for example, to make the site findable in search engines. We are also working with safety regions to link the information from other local information sources. Depending on the results of this approach, expansion may follow.
Why do Dutch people need to be prepared?
It has been a long time since we have actively brought attention nationwide to how to prepare for crisis situations. Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, information needs about crisis preparedness and concerns in society have increased. 70% of the Dutch indicate that they have insufficient insight into what the government is doing to mitigate the consequences of the war in Ukraine in the Netherlands. Therefore, the National Coordinator for Counterterrorism and Security has decided to compile all relevant information on a convenient website www.denkvooruit.nl.
Where can I find these studies?
All polls that form the basis for the communication approach can be found on the NCTV website at "Risk and Crisis Barometer.
