Town hall villa in scaffolding
For a week now, the Villa of City Hall has been completely in scaffolding. Covered with a noise-reducing white cloth, the monument now resembles a wrapped work of Christo art but the reason is different. Large-scale work is needed in the coming months to preserve this National Monument for the future. We will start with the painting and plastering.
History
The Villa was built around 1828 and served for a long time as a residence for various manufacturing families in the textile industry. The associated coach house is of a slightly later date. In 1921 the building was sold to the municipality of Geldrop. After a renovation it served as the new town hall for the village. The coach house was used by the police. Later new, large wings were built on the Villa and these served as the current town hall. In 2019, during the renovation of the town hall, the Villa became detached again and a connection was made by a footbridge on the first floor.
What are we going to do?
The entire building has now been "scaffolded" so that all facades can be blasted and repaired simultaneously. All layers of paint will be removed by sandblasting. Because of this blasting work, the entire scaffolding will be fitted with reducing cloth to minimize the nuisance of dust etc.
Any loose plaster layers are carefully removed until a load-bearing base is reached. The facades are then provided with a new breathable lime-based plaster layer and finally the facades are painted in the colour of Keim.
Traffic
The cycle path between the Villa and the coach house is closed due to the scaffolding and the works. Cyclists are being diverted via a temporary traffic plan.
First phase
The work on the facades is only the first phase of the work. In the coming period, work will also be done on the window frames, gutters and awnings and the interior of the building. The interior has now been completely stripped. The total costs for this will amount to €450,000. We will continue to give you an update on the status in the coming months.
