Two valuable maples in Lommerrijk (Geldrop) to be cut down

Near the railway station in Geldrop a new residential area is being built. New houses will be built in different places, for example on the old site of the GGD, near the Prell and near the Van der Puttschool. Together, this area will soon be called Lommerrijk. The city council recently approved the urban development vision for Lommerrijk. There will be a total of 245 to 265 homes, with a park in the middle. Valuable trees in the area

There are several trees in this area that are on the list of valuable trees. This means that they may not normally be cut down and will remain in the new neighborhood. Also behind the old GGD building at 33 Station Street are six such trees: maples. But now it appears that two of these trees are in poor condition (see on map 1 & 2):

  • The tree numbered 7011 is almost completely dead.
  • The tree numbered 2029 has half a dead crown (the upper part of the tree).

The trees have been examined (see photos). These two trees cannot recover and the recommendation is to cut them down.

Felling permit

The municipality has applied for a permit to cut down these two trees. The application also states that two trees will be replanted. It will become clear in a few weeks whether this will be allowed. If the permit is granted, it will be made public for six weeks. During that time, anyone who disagrees can object in writing.
