Successful fall prevention information evenings in Geldrop and Mierlo
Last weeks two successful information meetings on fall prevention were held in Wijkcentrum Den Akert in Geldrop and in cultural center 't Patronaat in Mierlo. Both information meetings attracted about 50 interested residents aged 65 and older each. The aim of the meetings was to make them aware of the risks of falling and to provide practical tools to prevent falls.
The meetings, organized by Leef! Geldrop-Mierlo in cooperation with local health care providers, offered extensive information on factors that can increase the risk of falling, such as reduced muscle strength, medication use and environmental factors. Attention was also given to specific exercises and adjustments in and around the home to prevent falls.
The information session also included an interactive session where participants had the opportunity to walk on the SmartFloor, an advanced floor that can use gait analysis to assess participants' risk of falling.
Based on this SmartFloor analysis, an average of about 20 residents per neighborhood were referred to follow-up training.
Live! Geldrop-Mierlo looks back on a successful series of meetings. "We want to support as many elderly people as possible to continue living independently and safely and will be going around all neighborhoods of Geldrop and Mierlo in 2025," said the fall prevention coordinator of Leef! Geldrop-Mierlo.
