Survey entrepreneurs
Among all entrepreneurs in Geldrop (3453), a survey was conducted in the summer of 2023 on behalf of OGM and the municipality. Entrepreneurs were able to respond both digitally and in writing. A total of 230 (108 digital and 122 written) entrepreneurs responded to the survey.
The results
A business association such as OGM has three pillars; Advocacy for members, information and knowledge sharing, and networking and meeting. Respondents were asked which pillar is important to them, where multiple pillars could be chosen. Individually, the pillars scored as follows:
All three pillars are considered important by slightly more than half of business owners with the information and knowledge sharing pillar scoring slightly higher. 56.7% of respondents consider one of the pillars important, 24.1% consider two pillars important and 19.2% consider all three pillars important.
The advocacy of OGM and the municipality focuses on a good and successful entrepreneurial climate in the municipality of Geldrop-Mierlo. Entrepreneurs were asked which topics are important to them in this. One could choose several topics. Here we see a diffuse picture. All the subjects that were offered are considered important by a number of entrepreneurs. Five subjects are considered important by more respondents than the others. General entrepreneurial climate (51.3%) and Future Vision Geldrop-Mierlo (50.4%) are indicated as important by half of the entrepreneurs. Cooperation with/dedication to entrepreneurs is indicated as important by 40% of the entrepreneurs. Sustainability (35.1%) and services (31.6%) are indicated as important by about one-third of the entrepreneurs. The remaining topics score around 20%.
11.8% of respondents indicated that there were other topics that were important. Given the diversity of topics, the responses that came in have been contained in a word cloud.
The provision of information and sharing of knowledge by OGM and the municipality is intended to help entrepreneurs in the municipality of Geldrop-Mierlo do business more successfully. Entrepreneurs were asked which topics they consider important in this. Again, respondents could choose multiple topics. Entrepreneurs were less divided on the subjects of information and knowledge sharing. The three topics most entrepreneurs find important are municipal regulations and support (55.3%), current issues affecting local entrepreneurs (53.1%) and subsidy opportunities for entrepreneurs (49.1%). Just over a third consider issues raised by entrepreneurs (39.9%) and legislation and changes to it (38.6%) important. The subject of finance and administration (12.7%) scores significantly less.
This question also allowed respondents to indicate other topics of interest. The response is contained in the word cloud below.
Networking and meeting is a basis for good cooperation between entrepreneurs, entrepreneurial associations and the municipality. Therefore, entrepreneurs were asked whether they think it is important for OGM to organize networking meetings for entrepreneurs and, if so, with what frequency they should take place. 13.2% of the respondents do not think organizing networking meetings is important. The respondents who do think networking meetings are divided on the frequency. 4% think there should be a meeting monthly, 31.7% believe it should take place once a quarter, 35.7% think once every six months is sufficient and 24.1% think the meeting should take place once a year.
An important pillar of cooperation between OGM and the municipality is advocacy. There is regular consultation from OGM's board with officials and Alderman Economic Affairs in the Economic Platform. Business owners were asked whether they knew of the existence of this consultation and whether they consider it important. Only 30.2% of the respondents knew that the consultation exists. The vast majority were not aware of it. Nearly all respondents (90.2%) think this consultation is important. This applies to both respondents who know about the consultation and those who do not.
