Start of project (diffuse) soil lead

Soil contamination with lead can pose potential health risks. The RIVM concluded in its report "Diffuse Lead Contamination in Soil" that the health risks associated with lead exposure for young children up to age 6 are greater than previously thought. Therefore, the national government asked the provinces to conduct a study together with the municipalities.

The province, together with the environmental department and the municipality, has compiled a list of attention sites after extensive file research and site visits. Attention sites are locations where lead may be present in the soil and where young children up to age 6 play and may come into contact with the uncovered (black) soil. For our municipality, this includes 12 play locations and 1 host parent location.

Date of implementation
On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, the play sites will be visited (briefly) by engineering firm RPS on behalf of the province. During the field investigation, a mixed sample will be made of the topsoil. This sample will be analyzed in the laboratory for lead. The measured levels will be tested against GGD standards.

General tips for residents
At this time, there is no need for additional precautions. The advice to residents is to follow the usual hygiene measures, such as washing hands after outdoor activities and rinsing vegetables thoroughly before consuming them.
