The council meeting was marked by a young crowd that was present especially for this occasion. Stan's friends, classmates and family were there to cheer him on. After taking the oath of office and the hanging of the chain of office by former children's mayor Annalot van Neerven, Stan was officially appointed children's mayor of Geldrop-Mierlo.

Mayor Jos van Bree took the time to thank Annalot for her dedication, creativity and enthusiasm over the past year as children's mayor. With her projects, she has shown how important the role of children is within the municipality. In her farewell speech, Annalot wished Stan well and gave him some tips from her own experiences as children's mayor, the most important of which was, "Stay yourself."

Stan is committed to a child-friendly Geldrop-Mierlo

Stan lives in Geldrop and is in grade 7 at Beneden Beekloop elementary school. In his spare time he plays field hockey, likes to play soccer with friends and likes gaming. As children's mayor Stan wants to work against bullying and discrimination. He wants to draw attention to these important issues and hopes to make a difference. 

Alderman Sanders speaks with enthusiasm about the appointment, "Stan, our second children's mayor, gets a great opportunity to grow personally and carry out his important project with passion. I am sure that, through his input, Geldrop-Mierlo will also become an even more child-friendly municipality in the coming year."

Role of the children's mayor

The children's mayor of Geldrop-Mierlo is the voice of all children in the municipality and aims to represent the interests of the youth. During the school year, the children's mayor goes out with the mayor and aldermen to different events and activities in the municipality. In addition, the children's mayor is given the opportunity to carry out a project of their own choosing.
