Plantation Gebr. A. & M. van Agt officially opened in the presence of family members
Last Monday, Mayor Jos van Bree and Michel van Agt (the son of one of the former owners of the van Agt brothers' linen and cotton weaving mill) unveiled the name of the parkoen in front of Villa van Agt in Geldrop in the presence of other family members. The Gebr. A. & M. van Agt plantsoen is located in front of the Villa van Agt and in front of Overburght; a new housing estate that could land here a while back on the former location of the linen and cotton weaving mill of the three Van Agt brothers.
A bench has also been placed in the public garden that overlooks the new nameplate with behind it one of the eight textile columns that characterize the center of Geldrop. Those who will soon be sitting on the bench may also pause to consider the story of this location articulated on this textile column and briefly explained in the box to the right. It is one of eight columns on the textile route that tells the textile past of our village in words and images. The QR code at the bench also offers memories of the time when Dries van Agt played soccer as the child of one of the three brothers behind it.

The Gebr. A. & M. van Agt park connects the past with the present. Mayor Jos van Bree said in his speech that he is proud of this place because here lies a piece of history and 'that is why it is so meaningful that their name lives on here, at this spot in the heart of Geldrop. Not as a statue or monument, but as a park - a public space, a place for meeting, for rest and for remembrance.
