Irene Roy installed as children's mayor of Geldrop-Mierlo
During the council meeting on Monday, September 15, Irene Roy was officially installed as children's mayor of Geldrop-Mierlo. Family, classmates and friends were present in the council chamber to witness this festive moment.
The evening began with the farewell of Stan van Steenbergen, who served enthusiastically as children's mayor for one year. Stan impressed during his year as children's mayor with his idea for a theater performance about bullying. With this he showed how important it is that children treat each other with respect and feel safe. Mayor Jos van Bree thanked him and his family for their efforts.
Getting to know other cultures
After Stan's farewell, Irene took the oath of office. In her year as children's mayor, she wants to work to introduce children to other cultures. "A great topic that is not only fun and educational, but also helps to understand each other better and be stronger together," said Mayor Van Bree.
The voice of youth
With her appointment, Geldrop-Mierlo enters its third year with a children's mayor. The children's mayor thinks along about topics that affect children and represents the youth together with the mayor and aldermen at special events.
