Get out what's in it! Tips to recycle and dispose of plastic, cans and drinking cartons (PBD) even better
Much plastic packaging waste, cans and drinking cartons (PBD) is already well (empty) disposed of. Currently, in the Netherlands, 88% of packaging can already be successfully recycled. Well done! Yet we still leave a lot of valuable raw materials lying around. Will you help? Together we crush, squeeze and slurp until every packaging is thrown away empty. And everything can be recycled properly.
Did you know...
Only empty containers can be properly recycled? Indeed, with one non-empty package, you ruin the contents of the whole bag. Then you have separated your waste for nothing AND the whole bag is not recycled. Eternal waste. So squeeze everything out of that tube of mayo, slurp the last drop out of that pack and throw your empty container in the proper bin or bag. No need to rinse clean. Check out all the instructions below.
Offer PBD at the right time to avoid nuisance!
Please put the bags of PBD waste outside only on the collection day and in the months of July and August before 7 am! At www.mijnafvalwijzer.nl you can see when the bags will be collected on your street.

Get out what's in it
Packaging is incredibly valuable. At least, if you empty them properly before throwing them away. The better we do this, the greater the chance that we can recycle the packaging properly. We can then make new products from the remaining raw materials. So really take everything out, and throw away your packaging empty.
Packaging instructions
To dispose of the waste properly, it is important to put the packaging waste in the bag empty.
- Health that packages are empty. No need to rinse clean.
- Caps and lids may remain on the containers.
- For canning jars, bend the lids inward.
- Drink containers can be folded flat and the cap screwed back on.
- Separate plastic from other packaging materials, such as paper.
- Do not put packages inside another package. In fact, this is difficult to separate during processing.
What waste is allowed where?
Wondering where to dispose of your waste? Then check the Weggooiwijzer label on the packaging. Sometimes a package consists of several parts made of different materials - again, this is indicated with Weggooiwijzer logos.
