Monitoring at housing locations for migrant workers

The Dommelstroom Intervention Team (DIT) yesterday checked housing locations for labor migrants in Geldrop. Employees of the municipality, the Safety Region and the police were involved in these administrative integral inspections.

The residents fully cooperated with the inspections in this regard. An unannounced inspection at two locations revealed several serious deficiencies. In both premises, the Basic Registration of PersonsBRP) registrations were not correct, despite actual occupancy. Those present were informed about this and instructed to register with the municipality. In one of the premises, residents were found not to have a lease or employment contract.

In addition, fire safety at both locations was not in order. A proper user alarm was missing and the smoke detectors were not up to standard. There was a fire hazard in the kitchen (including dirty extractor hood), and there were insufficient fire extinguishers present. Future unannounced inspections will again be conducted at the sites.

Enforcement

Compliance with laws and regulations is a serious matter. In the interest of a safe living and working environment, the municipality takes responsibility for checking for possible conflicting and dangerous situations. The enforcement policy adopted for this purpose is carried out, among other things, in cooperation with several parties.

Municipalities bear Health for their immigrant workers. They also do this by supervising a good living and working environment. The municipalities work closely together with the police, the Dutch Labor Inspectorate and the Tax and Customs Administration.

The Dommelstroom Intervention Team is a collaboration between the municipality, the police, the Safety Region and the Environmental Service. Sometimes other agencies are invited, such as Enexis or Customs.

The team regularly inspects premises and locations where there is strong suspicion of abuses or non-compliance with laws and regulations. The team looks at fire safety, accounting, (illegal) occupancy, permits, BRP registration, human trafficking, prostitution, drugs, social security fraud and other violations.

Information and tips

Residents can report any nuisance situations and suspicious situations to the DIT. This can be done by phone at their own municipality or at the police. (Dommelstroom municipalities are Cranendonck, Valkenswaard, Heeze-Leende, Geldrop-Mierlo, Nuenen and Son en Breugel).

Reports can also be made to Report Crime Anonymously at 0800-7000 or www.meldmisdaadanomiem.nl. Anonymous reports go directly to the municipality and can be used for investigation or an inspection
