Breast cancer screening for Geldrop clients
Bevolkingsonderzoek Nederland will start mid-June with a new research round of the population screening for breast cancer for clients from Geldrop. Women aged 50 to 75 who live in the zip code areas 5661 to 5667 will receive an invitation for the screening.
The research is conducted at the permanent research center at Larixplein 5, 5616 VB in Eindhoven.
Common form of cancer
Breast cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer in the Netherlands. About one in seven women in the Netherlands will develop breast cancer. By detecting the disease at an early stage, the chance of cure is significantly increased. This is why the population screening was created. Because of the population screening, between 850 and 1075 fewer women die of breast cancer each year.
Population Research
The population screening is for people aged 50 to 75. They receive a written invitation for the breast cancer screening once every 2 years. The examination consists of taking X-rays of the breasts. The examination is voluntary and free of charge.
Equal supply
Population screening should be the same for all women in the Netherlands. That is not Sun. at the moment. In one region women have to wait longer for the examination than in another region. To reduce the differences, the examination may take place at a different location. The client may also have to travel longer to the examination center.
