June 15: Day Against Elder Abuse - Do you recognize yourself?

June 15 is the International Day against Elder Abuse. Also in Geldrop-Mierlo we reflect on something that is often not spoken about, but unfortunately does occur - sometimes close to home. Perhaps you recognize yourself in the situations below.

What is elder abuse?

Elder abuse does not always happen with yelling or hitting. Sometimes it starts with little things. Someone who keeps wanting to use your debit card, or who gets angry when you say "no. Maybe you are scolded, ignored, or you feel scared in your own home. Or you are denied help when you desperately need it. That is also abuse.

What can you do?

Do you doubt that what you are experiencing is right? Do you feel unsafe or unhappy because of someone else? Then it is good to talk about it with someone. You do not have to do it alone. You can contact:
